Britain’s Forgotten Children on Channel 4
I’ ve always loved the so distinctive UK aesthetic in filmmaking in terms of faces, outfit, grunge-rock ‘n rollish, second tier, forgotten citizen look, that’s inherent to the culture of this great country. By the way, i ‘ve kept this classic rolling stones song (Gimme shelter) in mind for the last 5 years and i consider it a great soundtrack for an ad. That’s why i think UK still keeps the crown of creative advertising. It always had a unique way to visualize the creative idea or proposition in an edgy, witty way leaving no room for ineffectiveness. Too good creative briefs, too good creatives, or both? Rather both. Have a look here, it’s the IPA effectiveness awards with a great showcase of the most effective advertising around. Here’ s the spot for channel 4′ s pioneering journalism series for Britain’s forgotten Children.
Additionally, speaking of “forgotten children”, here’ s a wonderfully paced spot (“House of Cards”) for “shelter” by Leo burnett London, the housing and homelessness charity foundation in which we see a cityscape with houses built of giant cards slowly crumbling and blowing away. A musically dramatized call-to-action. It’s the first time Radiohead allowed one of their track to appear in an ad.
Radiohead provided the same track, “Videotape” for the national coalition’ s homeless commercials in America. Making them the first band to have a consistent message with their advertising associations. Music for society!!
